The phone rang as Kurt was pouring his tea. Lila was still asleep. Kurt smiled to himself as he answered the phone. It was Mike. He was still smiling when he said hello.

“Kurt, I swear, it sounds like you are smiling. What’s going on over there? You have your lady there?” Mike was peppering the hell out of his good mood.

He immediately stopped smiling.

“What do you want, Mike? I’m not on tonight, either, okay? I’m not even coming in today, in fact. What’s going on?”

Mike dropped the teasing to fill Kurt in on a Wolf presence in town that they hadn’t been able to identify. It had been around the back of Alice’s house, and Bill was acting a little bit crazy in his worry. Mike wanted a brother’s meeting at Alice’s to hear from Rue exactly what this Jack might be up to. Maybe Rue would be able to give them more insight than they had.

Kurt shot a look at Lila asleep in the bed and smiled again. She’d be fine, she lived here now, kind of.

Kurt left her a note by the coffee machine as he headed out.
